What does cruelty-free mean?

What does sustainable mean?
Sustainability is broader and can include environmental, social and economic considerations. For consumer products, useful questions include what the item is made from, how long it is expected to remain useful, how it should be maintained and what disposal options exist.
Can something be cruelty-free but not sustainable?
Yes. A product may meet a stated animal-testing criterion while still using resource-intensive materials, excessive packaging or a short-lived design. The reverse can also be true: an environmental claim does not prove an animal-testing policy.
How should you assess homeware?
For kitchen and home products, prioritise transparent material specifications, realistic care instructions, durability and specific evidence behind environmental or ethical claims. Avoid assuming a bamboo component proves an entire product is biodegradable, carbon-neutral or ethically produced.
